Frequently Asked Questions:
WHAT MAKES A CONCEPT SESSION DIFFERENT FROM THE OTHER SESSIONS?
I’m glad you asked! I approach every session with an artistic eye, but Concept Sessions are more unconventional than your typical shoot. These images tend to resemble myths, fairy-tales, or fashion imagery and are more heavily edited than other sessions. I am happy to provide costumes, props, and accessories that I have to fit the idea, or I can photograph you in your own whimsical costumes! Concept Sessions also take more time to plan, prepare, shoot, and edit!
HOW LONG UNTIL I RECEIVE MY PHOTOS?
Portrait sessions typically take between 7-14 days to process.
HOW DO I RECEIVE MY PHOTOS?
I provide all my clients with high quality digital files to download via Dropbox. Not sure how to use it? I will happily walk you through the steps.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR MY PORTRAIT SESSION?
I would love to discuss that with you! A few great things to keep in mind when choosing your outfits: be yourself, don’t be super “matchy-matchy,” stay away from extremely bright colors or bold patterns, be comfortable, and avoid anything too trendy. These photos will last you a lifetime, choose outfits that will stand the test of time too!
For concept sessions I generally provide a more fanciful wardrobe my clients to wear.
CAN I CHOOSE MY LOCATION?
I will generally give suggestions for shoot locations. I have chosen these locations specifically for their beauty! These are also locations that I am familiar with, this means that we can spend more time shooting and less time searching! If you have another idea for a location, please let me know and we can see if it would be a good match.
DO YOU HAVE A STUDIO?
At this time, I do not have a studio. As a natural light photographer the great outdoors is my studio!
IS THERE A PERFECT TIME OF DAY FOR PHOTOS?
Light is one of the most important things in a photograph! In fact, certain kinds of light are what mark my style! Because of that, I try to schedule sessions for the best possible light. This is usually during late afternoon and early evening. I also love shooting on overcast days, don’t be afraid of a cloudy forecast!
WHEN AND HOW DO I PAY?
The session fee is expected to be paid in full the day of the shoot. I accept PayPal, cash, and personal check.
HOW LONG DOES A SESSION TAKE?
The length of the session depends on the package you choose. I never rush through a session. You have my undivided attention during our time together. Please keep in mind that being late will cut into your session time, this is especially important if we are shooting around sunset.
WHAT IF I NEED TO RESCHEDULE?
That’s ok, life happens! Please try to contact me at least 24 hours in advance in the event that you need to reschedule. We can find another time for your session.
SHOULD I BRING ANYTHING TO THE SESSION?
Bring an amazing attitude and an adventurous spirit! On a practical note though, be sure to wear or bring shoes that are comfortable and can get a little dirty, have a bag with your change of clothes/accessories, remember a hairbrush and chap-stick, and please bring a small snack and water for longer sessions (photos aren’t fun if one of us is hangry)!
CAN I ARRANGE MY OWN PRINTING?
Of course! I provide high resolution files that look great printed. When I send you your images I’ll include my suggestion for where to print your images. Please remember that great images can be ruined by low quality printing! If you would like, printing can be arranged through me.
YOU TOOK SO MANY PICTURES, CAN I HAVE THEM ALL?
This is the point that I would like to emphasize quality over quantity. I take a lot of photos so I can capture that perfect moment. I carefully choose and edit the final photos that you will receive based on quality and emotional impact! If there is a photo I think you must have you’ll get it. If you loved your photos and want more you can always purchase extras too!
WHAT KIND OF TOPICS CAN YOU COVER IN A MENTOR SESSION?
I love teaching and have taught a ranges of ages and expertise. Here are some ideas of what we can cover!
-How to use your camera (shutter speed, ISO, F-stop, focal length, how to adjust your settings)
-How to identify and shoot different types of light (soft, harsh, low key, high key, open shade, golden hour…)
-How to create and photograph concepts (concept development and execution)
-How to edit in Photoshop (Photoshop basics, color editing, composites, retouching…)
There are plenty of other topics to cover as well, just ask!
HOW DOES A SKYPE MENTOR SESSION WORK?
If you aren’t local I’m happy to schedule a skype session! We can arrange a time to talk about any of topics I mentioned in the last question. For editing sessions just send me your files before hand (so I can demonstrate techniques for you to mimic) and we can sync our screens.
